A Montpelier sweet shop was forced to close for a few days this week after a grease fire in an upstairs apartment

Delish’s sprinkler system went off, soaking the store and damaging much of their inventory.

“It was dark and raining in my store,” said Mary Kay Blouin, the owner of Delish. “I lost a fair amount of candy but it was limited to certain areas. Water was pouring down, I had an inch and a half of standing water by the chocolate counter.”

That’s when Montpelier Alive organized a “cash mob” at Delish Saturday afternoon to help boost business.

Dan Groberg, the executive director of Montpelier Alive., said cash mobs are like flash mobs.

“You get as many people here as possible to spend their money in support of the business,” he said,

Local resident Martha Reed was more than happy to pitch in.

“I shop here kind of often and couldn’t resist helping them out and getting them back on their feet,” she said.

There’s still work to be done with Blouin’s insurance company to determine how much candy was lost and getting her inventory back fully stocked.
