Now to an update on the water main break that shut down part of Route 12 in Montpelier.

Water service has now been restored everywhere in the city, but there are still concerns of lingering contamination.

This comes a day after a water main break at the intersection of Elm and Spring streets sent water pouring onto the roads.

Crews don’t know exactly what caused the break, but the public works director says, the recent freeze-thaw cycle may have had something to do with it.

“Unknown really on what on what caused this one. It’s a 50 year old pipe it’s a duct wire pipe by comparison we have some water mains in Montpelier that are 100 years old and cast iron,” said Thomas McArdle, Montpelier Public Works Director.

The city has a boil water notice, and it’s expected to last through Thursday morning, at the earliest.

Until it’s lifted, city officials are urging you to boil your water, before you drink it, brush your teeth with it or wash vegetables with it.
