Vermont State Police say divers found a body in Lake Champlain that matches the description of an ice fisherman who was reported missing Monday.

Police say the body of Lee Wiktorski, 61, of Benson was found around 3:30 pm Wednesday.

Wiktorski was reported missing late Monday by a relative concerned that he had not yet returned from an ice-fishing trip.

The Vermont State Police dive team located Wiktorski’s pickup truck submerged in 22 feet of water Tuesday afternoon.

First responders began searching the ice in the vicinity of Singing Cedars Landing in Orwell on Monday night, with support from Coast Guard helicopter crew.

They discovered Wiktorski’s personal belongings on the ice, but there was no sign of the man.

On Tuesday, state police divers and two airboats joined the search, along with an aircraft from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and found Wiktorski’s silver 2001 Dodge Dakota truck, but there was no sign of him.

An autopsy is scheduled to positively identify the body and the cause of death.
