Representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will begin assessing the damages caused by last week’s flooding in Vermont.

FEMA and state emergency management officials say they will tour locations in seven counties that were damaged by the severe weather, which overwhelmed rivers already swollen with snow melt.

Vermont officials say the high waters inflicted more than $2 million in damages to public infrastructure around the state. The damages in Bennington, Caledonia, Essex, Orange, Rutland, Washington and Windsor counties are at or above the threshhold for federal disaster aid, they said.

The preliminary damage estimates support a “possible” disaster declation, said Vermont Emergency Management, who are scheduled to meet FEMA and VTRANS officials Wednesday at 10 a.m. in White River Junction to begin touring the damaged areas.
