A man was pulled from the Mississippi River this afternoon (Jan. 16) near Kimmswick, Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Juston Wheetley said.

The highway patrol was notified at 1:51 p.m. that someone saw a body floating in the river near the Illinois shore. The body was removed from the water near Hoppies Marina with help from the Rock Community Fire Protection District and Herculaneum Fire Department, Wheetley said.

He said the body, which could only be identified as a white male, was turned over to a medical examiner to determine the cause of death and to try to identify the victim.

Wheetley said the investigation is ongoing.
