Farringdon Street in the City of London was closed with a huge police presence cordoning off the area after a man was on the edge of a bridge for hours.

The Holborn Viaduct, which runs above Farringdon Street, was also shut in both directions while trained officers spoke with the man to get him to to return to the right side of the ledge on Wednesday afternoon, August 21.

The busy City of London roads were shut at around 12.30pm .

MyLondon reporter Vicky Munro was at the scene and witnessed crowds of people gathering on the bridge and below in the hope the man would return to safety.

The man stepped back onto the bridge and out of immediate danger at around 2.40pm. The roads remained closed however for a while longer until police were sure it was safe.

A team of paramedics and an ambulance were waiting under the bridge while the man was on the ledge and in danger.
