The City of London Police are responding to reports of a gas leak near Monument Tube station.
Several buildings have reportedly been evacuated in the area around Cannon Street in the City of London this afternoon (Thursday, August 15).
Some roads have been closed because of the reported gas leak.
This includes the junction of Cannon Street and King William Street stretching up to St Swithins Lane.
The police team have tweeted that they are responding to the incident.
At 2.19pm they tweeted: "We are responding to reports of a gas leak.
"The following roads are closed: junction of Cannon Street and King William Street up to St Swithins Lane.
"Some premises are being evacuated. Updates to follow."
As of 5pm, the cordon had been lifted.

Cadent engineers at the scene
Gas distribution network Cadent had engineers on the scene around Cannon Street.
A spokesperson at Cadent confirmed their engineers “Are currently working to repair a suspected gas escape in Cannon Street, London.
“We’re doing all we can to resolve the situation as soon as possible.”

Cannon Street station re-opened
The main entrance of Cannon Street station was temporarily closed following the gas leak.
It has now been re-opened.

Witness says police are looking into the All Bar One on Cannon Street
Tom, 29, has been evacuated from the building where he works in finance on St Swithins Lane.
He said that police told him the “white building where the All Bar One is” is currently being looked at. He is referring to the All Bar One on Cannon Street.
Tom continued: “We were evacuated at about 2.30pm. I left all my things in the office, including my keys to my home. Some of my colleagues also left their things.
“We were notified to leave the premisis when my colleague heard from a visitor that there were police cordons outside.
“We’re now sitting opposite St Mary’s Church.”
Tom added that the working time lost will “cost businesses a lot of money”.

Another gas leak has occurred elsewhere in Central London at the same time as this one.
A man was stabbed outside the Home Office.

A police woman shouted at a man who was smoking in the area.
She said: “Put out your fag please, it’s a gas leak!”
Firefighters on the scene
Three fire engines are now on the scene where there has reportedly been a gas leak.
The fire warden are at Forresters, a law firm in the area, said: “It was just like a normal fire alarm really.
“It’s the first time ever it’s not been a drill - if it had been half an hour later it would have been the actual time of our normal drill.”
