Anne Watson makes bid for reelection

Mayor Anne Watson announced Wednesday that she will run for reelection.Watson is more than a year into her first term. During the announcement, she discussed accomplishments and plans for the future. Watson said that during her term, the city is no longer supporting the fossil fuel industry, began paying construction workers a fair wage, formed a social and economic justice committee and homelessness task force, finished the shared-use path and transit center, and housing and passed a charter amendment to ban plastic bags."There are a lot of projects that we have going on right now that it feels like we are in the middle of -- projects around sustainability, and maintaining our infrastructure," Watson said. Watson has placed environmental concerns at the forefront of her reelection campaign, with plans to propose an ordinance change that will encourage homeowners to be more energy efficient. "Well, we know climate change is real; it's happening, and we need to be both continuing to reduce our carbon output as well as preparing for increased effects of climate change," Watson said. Other candidates have until Jan. 27 to get their names on the ballot. The election will take place March 3, 2020.
