There were a few severe thunderstorm warnings south and west of Rockford Monday afternoon and evening, but there are currently no active warnings – as of 6:50pm – for the Stateline.

Thunderstorms that developed earlier in the day over Whiteside, Lee and DeKalb counties did produce hail, with a few hail reports over Stephenson County.  We’ve got a little break in some of the activity this evening but a line of storms moving through eastern Iowa have formed ahead of a cold front.  There are currently severe thunderstorm warnings for a portion of that line in eastern Iowa.

As the front moves closer to northwest Illinois the overall coverage of storms is expected to pick back up, mostly between 7:30pm and 8:30pm.  While the storms will be moving into a slightly more stable environment, strong winds in the atmosphere and the approaching cold front will be just enough to keep an isolated severe threat going through roughly 10pm Monday evening.  This means any storm that does develop could be capable of winds over 60 mph and quarter sized hail.

Right now our greatest threat for strong to severe storms will be with the storms west of Whiteside County with the line currently moving through Davenport.
