A chowkidar guards the one-room house in the midst of the plot No. 411 of Sector 1, Gandhinagar, the state capital of Gujarat, as the caretaker of the 330 sq m land allotted to the then chief minister Narendra Modi. Right opposite of it is plot No. 401 which is four times the size of plot No. 411.

There is a lock on the main gate of the plot No. 411 but the door of the house inside is wide open. Its window pane is shattered. The lawn, trees and flower plants have been maintained well.

Both plot No. 411 and 401 are in the eye of a political storm as their owners are Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. While the sole owner of plot No. 411 is the PM, half of plot No. 401 is jointly owned by Modi and Jaitley, one-fourth each. Who owns the other half is not known.

Residents of Sector 1 know that the PM and the FM are the owners of the two prime plots facing the common park of the colony on one side and the main arterial road on the other side.  These two VVIP plots stand out because these are the only vacant pieces of land. The sector 1 is known as the VIP sector in Gandhinagar because here former ministers, MPs and MLAs have constructed their bungalows.

Now that a PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court by a former journalist Saket Gokhale seeking probe by a special investigation team, the two prime plots of land in the VIP Sector of Gandhinagar have suddenly come into limelight.
