92.7 BIG FM, on Saturday initiated a campaign Dilli Ke Dhaakad which is meant to address the issue of women’s safety in the Delhi-NCR area. The programme is meant to engage people into taking an active role and not just being ‘mute spectators’.

The campaign is being led by RJ Richa Anirudh who engaged in an in-depth conversation in panel discussion with Roshni Misbah, popular as Hijabi Biker, Benita Mary Jaiker, ADDL, DCP-South West Delhi Police, Vikas Bagaria, Founder, Pee Safe, Dr. Anil Pandey, DIG Operations and Chief PRO, CISF, Kaynat Kazi, Travel Photographer and Supriya Himanshu, Editor, AllWhatSheWants at Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj.

Safety is one of the alarming issues in the capital city that every woman faces. This campaign is meant to create awareness as well as take tangible actions. The panellists discussed the issues women face on a daily basis and probable solutions, urging people to come forward and unite for the cause.

One of the key observations by the radio network was that most people are ‘mute spectators’ and do not believe that they can make a difference. This campaign aims to bring forth the thought that ‘Change starts with you.’ People who step forward and raise their voice to take action are the real ‘Dilli Ke Dhaakad’.

Speaking about the campaign, TV journalist and radio host Richa Anirudh said, With the number of molestation, eve-teasing, stalking and rape cases rising, all of us really need to pull up our sleeves and stand united on one front. It is very disappointing to see the city in such a condition where women are scared to go out alone. In this hour of need, a change needs to be brought in the perception towards these heinous crimes.

Also, rather than restricting girls/women to step out, we need families to educate and sensitise men/boys about this topic. I am proud to be associated with this campaign. The entire BIG FM team is putting their best foot forward to make this city safer for women. I am hoping to receive support not only from women but men in large numbers as well.”

Roshni Misbah, popular as Hijabi Biker said, We have seen so many cases of people blaming victims of molestation, eve teasing, just because they were not covered head to toe. We need to counter such mentality and stand united against it. I am glad that a brand like BIG FM actually came forward to initiate a conversation around it and hope everyone who believes in the cause will come forward to join.”

Benita Mary Jaiker, ADDL, DCP-South West Delhi Police on this issue said, “I appreciate the step taken by BIG FM to start a campaign around the safety of women in the region. Our constant endeavor is to keep the city free from such mishaps and we seek support from the citizens to help us keep a tight check on such activities.”

As a part of the ongoing campaign, Richa and other BIG FM RJs will be visiting seven different zones, interacting with people to understand the real challenges and seeking different perspectives to address concerns. Divided into multiple activities, the radio station will try to identify areas and streets which are not safe for women and involve authorities to take strict action to resolve the issues.
