If you are planning to visit Honolulu, get ready. Honolulu is so much more than just lounging on the beach all day -although that is pretty sweet too! There are so many things you can experience in Honolulu; you should get out and start exploring. But if you aren't into the touristy activities, and would prefer to experience the island as a local would, we've got you covered!

There are plenty of hidden gems in Honolulu that will delight your senses. And because many of these aren't on the typical tourist route, you can likely enjoy yourself without the crowds. Here are a few spots that you should put on your travel itinerary.

Honolulu Chinatown

Honolulu's Chinatown is a must-visit. While this is not exactly off the beaten path, you can experience some of the most fantastic quality cuisines on the island. Many tourists don't even leave their resort and have all of their meals there; this is a mistake. While resorts offer some excellent cuisine, there is nothing like the freshness of Chinatown for some amazing dinner at a great price.

Hike Diamond Head

If you are into the outdoors and in decent shape, consider hiking Diamond Head. Diamond Head is a former volcano that is iconic of Honolulu. While you can see it from almost anywhere in Honolulu, the view is spectacular at the top. Plan a day hike and pack some snacks and head out. Once you reach the top, you will be treated to panoramic views of the island. This is truly a once in a lifetime view.

Manoa Falls

After you tackle Diamond Head, it might be time to try a completely different hike. While Diamond Head covers dry volcanic terrain, Manoa Falls is a jungle hike. This hike is suitable for most fitness levels as it only takes around 30 minutes to reach your destination. When you reach the falls, you can even take a dip in the pool at the bottom to cool off and get some great pictures.

Pier 38

If you are an early bird, you can visit Pier 38 and watch their live fish auction in action. This is a local thing to do, as it is pretty much free of tourists, but it is such a cool thing to witness. If you are running late, don't worry. There are tons of rows of fish to auction off so you will still get to see it. Also, because there are ice and refrigeration, it is cold inside. Make sure you dress appropriately and wear warm socks and shoes. You'll be grateful you did!

Conclusion

When you visit Hawaii, you will be treated to one of the most fantastic vacation destinations. Many people who visit never want to head back to the mainland. If you fall into this category or suspect you will check out some of this fantastic Honolulu real estate. This will have you packing up and heading for island life in no time.
