Two stolen vehicles were involved in a crash on The Beltline on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Walter J. Ostrenga of the Monona Police Department said officers responded to the eastbound lanes of the Beltline near Monona Drive for a reported vehicle crash involving multiple vehicles just before 12:30 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, it was discovered that it was a two-vehicle crash. Both vehicles were recently stolen from Fitchburg and Sun Prairie. Four male juveniles were seen running north from the Beltline towards the area of Monona Drive and Broadway.

Ostrenga said the four teenage boys were seen entering the Staples store in the Pier 37 shopping center. Officers converged on the area, and they were able to take one of the teens into custody. The other three teens cut through the stock room and ran out the back door towards Ahuska Park. A second teen was taken into on the football field. After a search with a K9 unit, another teen was found hiding under a tree near the baseball field. The last teen was tracked to a marshy area near the park.

Ostrenga said the offenders include a 14-year-old boy, two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy. All of the teens have lengthy histories of stealing vehicles. One of the teens was a reported runaway. All four of the teens will be transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Ostrenga said the 14-year-old was injured in the crash, but he was able to take off on foot. Once he was taken into custody, he complained of injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
