2 Men Arrested for Climbing Downtown Chicago Building

The men climbed up an exterior elevator shaft on the side of the unfinished building, authorities say

Two men were arrested after they climbed up an exterior elevator shaft at the under-construction Vista Tower on Saturday evening.

According to Chicago police, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East South Water Street at approximately 7:11 p.m. after witnesses saw two men climbing up the side of the building.

The men, both of whom are 28 years old, were placed into custody when they returned to the ground, according to authorities.

The Vista Tower, which is under construction, will be the third-tallest building in Chicago upon completion. The tower is expected to check in at just under 1,200 feet tall, and is expected to be completed in 2020.
