A motorcyclist collided with a San Miguel Fire District fire engine Thursday, leaving the rider pinned underneath.

The California Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist was headed eastbound on Paradise Valley Road in Spring Valley when he crashed into the firetruck.

A witness told NBC 7 the truck was responding to a medical emergency at the Skyline Apartments on Paradise Valley. When it made a right turn into the complex, the motorcyclist collided with it.

The witness said there were people at the entrance of the complex waving the fire engine in and trying to direct it where to go.

Another witness told NBC 7 it took emergency crews 30 minutes to try and free the motorcyclist from the wreckage.

The rider was conscious when he was being taken away by an ambulance, a witness said. The CHP said the rider was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital.
