Maryland Man May Have Been Accidentally Killed by Delivery Truck

Police are looking into the possibility that a man found dead in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Tuesday was accidentally killed by a kitchen appliance delivery truck, sources said.

Dammeon Powell, 34, was seen underneath the truck in the Flower Hill neighborhood about 7:45 a.m. A neighbor said he appeared to be passed out or asleep.

“I didn’t see any blood or anything, because I looked,” Ryan Davis said. “I just thought he was sleeping and I kept on walking to go to work.”

The driver of the truck may have got in and drove off without realizing anything had happened, sources said.

Police were called to the scene about 8:41 a.m.

How Powell ended up under the truck is under investigation.

His mother said he left the house Monday night to meet with friends. She tried to call him Tuesday morning but got no answer.

“Times like this pulls the family closer together too as well,” said Powell’s brother Troy Martin. “You realize how precious life is and how quickly it can be gone from not one day to the next day but from second to second.”

Powell worked for a moving company and was the youngest of six siblings.
