Harry Franklin “Red” Pitts

Harry Franklin “Red” Pitts, 76, Bronaugh, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Red was born April 10, 1942, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Chester Franklin and Lillie Mae (Beasley) Pitts. He married Shirley A. Pitts on Sept. 4, 1963, in Liberal, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Red, a lifelong resident of Bronaugh, attended school and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1961. He worked for Nevada State Hospital Power Plant for 37 years retiring in 2001. He also farmed and raised cattle. Red was a member of the Bronaugh Volunteer Fire Department many years, and he served on the City Council in Bronaugh for 20 years. He enjoyed cooking for various functions and area events including Bushwhacker Days, Vernon County Youth Fair, Bronaugh Fire Department, Ducks Unlimited, and for FFA kids.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, survivors include his brother, Larry Pitts and his wife, Sharon, Bronaugh; two sisters, Viola Cain, Moundville, and Nancy Pitts, Bronaugh; several nieces and nephews; their “adopted” daughter, Amy Leonard; extended family, and his many friends and kids. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Chester Dewey Pitts and Verlin Franklin Pitts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Ed Post officiating. Interment will follow in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
