Business briefs: Layman joins Shai Commercial Real Estate

GRANVILLE – Steve Layman, a longtime commercial real estate agent with Anderson Layman Company, has joined Shai Commercial Real Estate as an associate broker, the company and president/founder J. Park Shai III announced.

Layman said he decided to join Shai Commercial after his longtime business partner David Anderson retired from the brokerage business. Layman moved his brokers license to Shai Commercial Real Estate, but Anderson Layman still exists for its properties and development, Layman said.

He became licensed to sell real estate in Ohio in 1979, and formed the commercial and investment real estate brokerage Anderson Layman Company in 1982. He has been instrumental in the development of three subdivisions, with almost 400 building lots, participated in the building of almost 200,000 square feet of retail space, and participated in the renovation and re-use of more than 20 buildings, totaling more than 265,000 square feet.

Layman, a Denison University alumnus, is a board member with the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority, the Newark Board of Zoning Appeals, Newark Development Partners, Midland Theatre, Downtown Newark Special Improvement District, St. Vincent de Paul Housing Facilities, past president of the Licking County Board of Realtors, past director of the Licking County Chamber of Commerce, and past trustee for the Licking County Library.

Shai Commercial Real Estate, established in 2003, also announced Brandon Hess achieved his brokers license and became a partner of the brokerage this year. Hess, former president of Mattingly Foods, of Louisville, Kentucky, started with the brokerage in 2016. He completed his broker licensing and attained his State of Ohio real estate brokers license in 2018.

Licking Memorial announces hires, promotions

NEWARK – Licking Memorial Health Systems announced the additions of two doctors and the promotions of two nurse practitioners.

Licking Memorial Women’s Health announced the addition of Dr. Kelli Gevas. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University – Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center, in Baltimore, Maryland. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

She received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Basseterre, Saint Kitts.

Licking Memorial Health Systems announced the advancement of Corey Salyer to certified nurse practitioner in the Licking Memorial Anesthesiology Department.

Salyer received his bachelor's and master degrees in nursing from the University of Cincinnati. He is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

He began working as a point of care technician in the Licking Memorial Emergency Department in 2010. After earning his bachelor’s, Salyer returned to LMHS in 2015 as a registered nurse. He since earned his master’s and accepted a position in pre-admission testing for Licking Memorial Anesthesiology.

Licking Memorial Health Systems announced Dr. Brian Goodhue has joined Licking Memorial Emergency Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. Goodhue completed an emergency medicine residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus.

Licking Memorial Health Systems announced the promotion of Tabitha Gartner to certified nurse practitioner in the Licking Memorial Emergency Medicine Department.

Gartner received her bachelor's degree from Ohio University in Athens. While employed as a staff nurse for LMHS, she completed her master's from Chamberlain University in Downers Grove, Illinois. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

LMHS employee honored for promoting organ donation

NEWARK – Lifeline of Ohio honored Nemili Johnson, an LMHS clinical applications analyst, with the Service, Teamwork, Attitude, Respect, or STAR Award, at an Evening with the Stars event on March 9.

Johnson was recognized for her service in promoting organ donation on behalf of Lifeline of Ohio. Nemili was honored for helping drive improved electronic medical record access for onsite organ recovery staff.

Lifeline of Ohio promotes and coordinates the donation of human organs and tissue for transplantation. The annual Evening with the Stars event, presented by TXJet, recognizes individuals and institutions for their role in saving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.

Heath auction professional earns top designation

HEATH – Heath auctioneer Charles White, of Kaufman Realty and Auctions, recently completed his training at the prestigious Certified Auctioneers Institute. Developed by the National Auctioneers Association, the CAI program is the industry’s premier training program for auction professionals.

The three-year designation is an intensive, executive development program offering professional auctioneers instruction and coursework in business management, ethics, communication, finance, strategic planning and marketing. The NAA conducts CAI every year in March at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

White is an auctioneer/real estate agent for Kaufman Realty and Auctions. He joined the auction business in 2014, and has been full-time in the business since 2016. White sells real estate, farm and construction equipment, tools, antiques, collectibles, primitives, and personal property at auction in Licking and surrounding counties.

TrueCore Federal announces director of operations

NEWARK – TrueCore Federal Credit Union announced the promotion of Clinton White to director of operations.

White, of Utica, is a 10-year employee of TrueCore Federal. In his new role, he will be responsible for managing all frontline operations, employee training, facilities and security.

The Utica High School graduate received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He will complete Credit Union National Association executive management school training at the University of Wisconsin in July 2020, where he will earn the professional designation of Certified Credit Union Executive.

White serves on the Village of Utica Council as chairman of the finance committee and zoning commission. He is a board member for the Lookup Center, financial instructor for the Licking County Day Reporting Program, legislative committee member of the Licking County Board of Realtors, and a Big Brother of the Licking County Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Cherry Valley Lodge owner acquires Tennessee hotel

NASHVILLE – Officials of Wexford Lodging Advisors, a hotel asset management and investment firm, and Trinity Private Equity Group, an alternative asset management firm, announced the acquisition of the 138-suite DoubleTree Suites by the Hilton Hotel Nashville Airport.

The joint venture will invest approximately $2.5 million to upgrade the property with a targeted completion date of year’s end. The 3-story all-suite hotel is two miles from Nashville International Airport 

Granville-based Wexford Lodging Advisors announced in 2017 the purchase of the 200-room Cherry Valley Lodge, in Newark, along with a $13 million renovation of the facility. Wexford's portfolio includes 11 branded and independent hotels with a total asset value of more than $1 billion.
