Two flown to Columbus hospital following Saturday crash in Newark

Two people were flown to Grant Medical Center following a crash on Ohio 16 on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020.

NEWARK - A man and a woman were flown to a Columbus hospital on Saturday night after a collision on Ohio 16 in Newark.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, a 2004 Chevy Silverado was being driven by Amity Bounds, 44, of Newark, eastbound on Ohio 16 in the right lane. The agency said a 2015 Nissan Altima being driven by Shawn Douglass, 39, of Newark, was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes, and changed lanes, striking the Silverado.

Crews were called to the scene around 11:24 p.m. Saturday on Ohio 16 in the area of Cedar Street in Newark.

The agency said Bounds and Douglass were flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with non life-threatening injuries.

According to OSP, the accident appears to be alcohol-related and charges are expected to be filed in the crash. The agency said both individuals were wearing seatbelts.

In addition to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Newark fire and police, Madison Township Fire Department, Heath fire, and the Licking County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
