Sports in a Minute: West Newbury's Kelsi McNamara leading dominant Saint Joseph's women's basketball team

Kelsi McNamara

Perfect 10

Former Pentucket basketball great Kelsi McNamara is having a dominant senior season, and on Thursday night her Saint Joseph’s (Maine) women’s basketball team put a stamp on what is turning into a special season. The Monks beat Maine-Farmington by a score of 92-48, improving to a perfect 10-0 on the season.

McNamara scored 14 points in the win, but has been lighting up the scoreboard in most of the team’s other games. The West Newbury resident is averaging 20.7 points per game, including 37 points in a win over Southern Maine and 25 points in the season opener against Eastern Nazarene.

For the record

In Thursday’s Daily News, David Sartwell’s outdoors column mentioned that you can rent skis at an affordable price from Christy Sports at Killington. Christy Sports does not have a store at Killington, but it does have an affiliate program with a partner store, Basin Sports, which is located in Killington and does offer rental packages at the price points mentioned in the story.

Perfectly healthy

How often do you see an NFL team with no players on its injury report this late into the season? That’s the enviable situation the Patriots find themselves in now, as Dwayne Allen and Stephon Gilmore were both removed from the injury report on Friday, officially leaving the list empty going into Sunday’s showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers are officially without tackle Marcus Gilbert, who has been ruled out with a knee injury, and running back James Conner (ankle) and wide receiver Ryan Switzer (ankle) are both questionable for Sunday.
