Delhi zoo gets white tiger under animal exchange programme

Under the animal exchange programme, National Zoological Park in the National Capital got hold of a white tiger named ‘Vijay’ that has been brought from the Lucknow zoo. As part of the exchange, Delhi zoo will bid farewell to a white tigress named ‘Geeta’ on Monday.

A zoo official said, “The exchange is part of many that have been approved recently. Since we have a number of white tigers, the idea was to change the bloodline so that no inbreeding occurred and the offspring’s survive longer.” He further said, the authorities are preparing to transfer the white tigress to Lucknow zoo.

After having undergone all the customary checks, the officials from the zoo said, the tiger that arrived form Lucknow is healthy. Also they said once the tiger becomes familiar to its new surroundings and environment, it will be released in its enclosure.

Fishing cats, leopard cats and oriented hornbills are among other animals who will be brought to Delhi zoo.
