As the nation is moving towards renewable energy with a rapid pace, backed by the orders of the central government, private equity and pension fund investments for initiating several energy related programmes, the government expects to achieve a renewable energy capacity target of 260 gigawatt (GW) by year 2024.
With 77.6 GW as India’s renewable power capacity risen up by almost 150 per cent in past five years, the government has set a target for 2022 to achieve power capacity of 175 GW.
Secretary to the Ministry of new and renewable energy, Anand Kumar said, in line with the move to achieve the target set by the government, a policy has been formulated by it for the construction of a 30 GW local capacity for production of solar cells and modules by 2024.
