Sikkim gets its new Chief Minister

Ousting the Chamling government after more than 24 years, the president of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Prem Singh Tamang on Monday, May 27, took oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim.

The SKM with its foundation engraved in year 2013, bagged 17 seats in the 32 member Sikkim Legislative Assembly with a slender majority against SDF’s 15 seats.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Paljor Stadium where the Governor Ganga Prasad administered his oath. Mr. Tamang popularly known as P S Golay, presently, is not a member of the state assembly as he did not contest the elections.

The oath taking ceremony did not witness the presence of former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling and senior Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leaders. The 51-year old party chief took the oath in Nepali language and hundreds of SKM supporters present at the ceremony cheered for him.
