Telangana and Andhra Pradesh launch ‘Be Smart’ initiative to fight battle against AIDS

Two Telugu states—Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been found with the highest number of people with sexually-transmitted diseases (STD) in the country, as per the reports of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India with the National Health Profile of India (2018).

To fight this battle against the two states, the AIDS control society of Telangana (TSACS) has launched a new campaign “Be Smart”. The move forms a part of India’s commitment to achieving ‘End of AIDS’ by 2030.

Dr. G. Anna Prasanna Kumari, Additional Project Director of TSACS said, “This was the first time AIDS screening was being done by going to people’s doorsteps.”

As part of the project, NGOs will be conducting mass testing in slums, migrant colonies and construction and industrial risk sites.
