Police investigate Thursday night shooting in Springfield

Police say a man was shot in the abdomen Thursday night in Springfield.

According to Springfield Police Department spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey, the shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Johnston Avenue.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery, according to Bailey.

Police did not have an update Friday morning on the man's condition.

Bailey said no suspect had been arrested as of Friday morning, but detectives are investigating.
