A woman is facing the possibility of 10 years to life in prison after authorities say she drunkenly crashed into a Springfield police car.

Jennifer Twedell, 41, was charged last week with DWI as a habitual offender after police say she caused the crash and then pretended someone else was driving.

According to court documents, Twedell crashed her Chevrolet Malibu into a marked Springfield police patrol car that was stopped at a red light on East Chestnut Expressway early in the morning of Nov. 20.

Court documents say there was a bottle of Fireball whiskey on the floorboard of Twedell's car, her breath smelled of alcohol and she seemed disoriented and confused.

Twedell allegedly told police someone else had been driving her car and then fled the scene on foot, but that was disputed by witnesses and evidence at the scene.

A blood draw showed Twedell's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the crash was 0.198 percent, according to court documents.

The officer suffered from soreness after the crash and a cut near his hairline but he was not seriously injured, according to court documents.

The DWI charge Twedell is facing is elevated to a Class B felony because court documents say she pleaded guilty or was convicted of DWI five other times since 1999.

A bond recommendation document from prosecutors says Twedell is a prior and persistent felony offender which means she could face the punishment associated with a Class A felony, which is 10 years to life in prison.

Online records indicate a warrant has been issued for Twedell's arrest.

Twedell does not have an attorney listed for this case, and an attempt to reach her for comment on Wednesday was not successful.
