Police say they are investigating a shooting Friday morning at a Springfield motel.

Lt. David Meyer with the Springfield Police Department said officers were dispatched to the area of Glenstone Avenue and Brower Street at about 9 a.m. after witnesses came upon a man who had been shot in the abdomen.

Police investigate the scene at the Dogwood Park Inn in Springfield, Mo., on Friday, June 21, 2019 where they believe a shooting occurred at some point overnight.

Meyer said police believe the man was shot at the nearby Dogwood Park Inn sometime overnight and then wandered to a strip mall north of there on Friday morning.

The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to Meyer.

Meyer said police do not believe the man shot himself but they had not identified a suspect as of Friday morning.

The victim is in his mid-30s, Meyer said.

Police surrounded a portion of the motel parking lot with crime scene tape on Friday morning, and an ambulance was seen leaving the area at about 9:10 a.m.
