Springfield police are investigating a shooting at Hawthorn Park that left one person injured on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Several shots were fired and police were called at about 7:25 p.m.

Later, several officers and a Springfield parks ranger were methodically walking an area enclosed by yellow crime tape looking for shell casings.

McIntyre said there was no special event going on at the park, which is between South Market and South Grant avenues.

It was simply a pleasant evening — on the day before summer officially begins — with a lot of people enjoying the park, he said.
