PUBG has emerged as one of the most popular games in India and perhaps that’s the reason why it is giving sleepless nights to parents, schools, universities, and the young gamers who are addicted to the game.
Just a week ago, the massively popular game gained notoriety after cases of addiction were reported to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. In fact, some schools in Bengaluru have begun to warn parents about the ill-effects of playing the game for hours at a stretch.
And now the Chief Warden of Men’s Hostel of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), a university located in Tamil Nadu, has sent out a circular warning the students against playing late night online games, with a special mention to PUBG.
The circular states that the game disturbs fellow roommates and it is “spoiling the entire atmosphere of the hostel”. It even suggests that students must concentrate on physical games or sports and “give more importance to their career growth”.
The notice got shared on Reddit and upon contacting Dr. S. Sivakumar, the Associate Chief Warden of VIT’s Men’s Hostel, the authenticity of the circular was confirmed.

Circular For Students Playing Online Games (PUBG)
“It has come to our notice that few students are playing online games like ‘PUBG’ which is NOT PERMITTED. Despite our repeated instructions by playing online games inside the rooms which disturbs fellow roommates and spoiling entire atmosphere of the hostel. It is strictly warned that playing online games and betting for such games are totally prohibited in VIT. Hence, the defaulters will be dealt seriously under VIT CODE OF CONDUCT. Students are asked to concentrate on physical games or sports and give more importance to their career growth.”
The circular became a hot topic of discussion on the platform.
“If you’re living in a hostel, you have to also keep in mind about the roommate who is there to study. You can’t play pubg all night like “mah lyf, mah rules” and bark while disturbing others who are paying through their nose to study there,” wrote one user.
“Aren’t colleges for adults?” asked other.
“You do realize that their volume has nothing to do with the game right?”
“If you violate others privacy by making noise calling cop is pretty normal in USA. They shouldn’t infringe on your right as long as you are not infringing on others privacy. And betting is illegal in India. Therefore, the college administration has done what law expects it to do.”
Ever since the multiplayer game released on smartphones, PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) has become a rage in the gaming community. There’s a cafe themed around the viral game in Jaipur. Even the members of the Indian cricket team are hooked on to it.
In Google’s annual list of Android’s best applications and games of 2018, PUBG Mobile took home the award in the ‘Best game’, ‘Most Competitive Title’ and ‘Fan Favorite’ categories.
With PUBG Mobile reaching 100 million downloads in September, it comes as no surprise that the online game is a rage amongst kids and adults alike.
