JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – One of two men charged in connection with the June shooting death of 23-year-old Leon Bennett pleaded guilty Tuesday to a count of evidence tampering in the case.
Jose Emanuel Lebron, 29, is accused of driving the vehicle that was used in the shooting that unfolded about 2:30 a.m. June 24 after a brawl outside the Jacksonville Beach bars.

Duval County court records show Lebron entered a guilty plea to evidence tampering, a third-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and fines up to $5,000.
Like Lebron, 25-year-old Shaquille Walker is being held on an evidence tampering charge, but he's also charged with a count of carrying a concealed weapon. Walker's case is still pending.
Court records show Bennett was involved in a fight with Walker and Lebron before the shooting. A witness told police Bennett was shot during a second encounter while wrestling Walker out of a car.
The vehicle driven by Lebron was later found abandoned in Volusia County. He and Walker subsequently surrendered to authorities in Hawaii after warrants were issued for their arrests.
A presentencing investigation has been ordered in the case. A sentencing date has not yet been set for Lebron, who remains in custody at the Duval County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
