A building society has thrown its support behind a festive campaign to make sure no child wakes up on Christmas morning without a present.

The Cumberland has set up drop off points at all of their branches around Cumbria and South West Scotland where people can donate presents for children who otherwise would have to go without.

Every year the News & Star and CFM's Cash for Kids work together to collect as many toys and presents for children as possible.

Before Christmas, these gifts are distributed to parents and carers in Cumbria who cannot afford to buy their children presents.

The Cumberland Building Society has supported CFM's Mission Christmas for a number of years now and always get lots of donations in their boxes.

Debbie Shearer, head of branch sales for The Cumberland, said: “Across our branch network, we’re acting as a toy collection point, so anyone can pop into any of our branches and drop off a gift.”

“On December 7, we’re also taking part in one of our favourite charity days of the year, Christmas Jumper Day.

“All money raised will go directly to CFM’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas. A number of our team are also taking advantage of their charity day to spend the day helping Sara sort through the gifts at Arco.”

Drop off points have now been set up in The Cumberland Building Society branches in Carlisle, Wigton, Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven and more. All drop off points can be found at www.cumberland.co.uk/about/branch-finder

When asked why The Cumberland Building Society was so keen to support the Toy Appeal, Debbie said: “We’re really proud to be supporting this appeal, something we’ve supported for a number of years.

“The work and effort Sara, Katie and the team at CFM put in every year to ensure that thousands of children from our local communities don’t wake up without a present on Christmas morning is incredible and it’s the dedication that they have to help children across our region that really inspires us to get involved and help in any small way we can.”

Since the Toy Appeal and Mission Christmas launched last month more than 50 newsagents, supermarkets, cafes, and banks have signed up.

We're hoping that our readers will add an extra toy to their shopping list this Christmas.
