The Script come to Carlisle this weekend as part of a short tour that promises fans a rare chance to get up close to them.

The Sands Centre is one of only four gigs the Irish trio play before their appearance and the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Last year they performed an all-arena tour of the UK, this time round they are playing more intimate gigs at slightly more out of the way places, like Carlisle, Halifax and Bath.

Last year's return to live performances followed a health scare for frontman Danny O'Donoghue.

He was unable to talk for two months after undergoing throat surgery in 2017 to remove nodules on his vocal chords.

The band had an enforced break and O'Donoghue admitted that the operation and illness had been an emotional experience.

The band are five albums (four of them no1 hits in the UK album chart) and 10 years into a 30 million record-selling career Tracks such as For The First Time, Hall Of Fame, Breakeven and Superheroes have been global hits.

They boast four number 1 albums in the UK and four platinum selling singles in the US and combined YouTube views of one billion.

The band manage to be streaming-era superstars as well as self-produced singer-songwriters.

And they appeal to an audience of all-ages and all-sexes, selling out arenas with ease, so it's no surprise that the Carlisle show - and all the others are all sold out.

The Script play The Sands Centre, Carlisle, on Sunday.
