A town council election which was postponed after the death of a candidate will be held next month.

Voters in the Keswick East ward were due to go to the polls along with others across the county to choose their town councillors on May 2.

But voting had to be delayed after the death of candidate Martin Pugmire.

The poll will now be held on Thursday, June 20, with seven seats up for election.

Candidates who had put themselves forward for the original poll cannot withdraw or amend their details. They will be automatically included on the ballot papers and do not need to re-nominate themselves.

Any new candidates wishing to stand should submit their nomination papers by 4pm on Thursday, May 23.

The deadline for registering to vote is midnight on June 4.

Applications for postal votes should be submitted by 5pm on June 5, with proxy vote applications to be received by 5pm on June 12.

Emergency proxy votes can be requested up to 5pm on polling day.
