Two classic Alan Bennett plays are to be performed by the Carlisle Green Room Club.
The playwright is best known for The History Boys and The Lady In The Van. Office Suite features two lesser known one act plays called Green Forms and A Visit From Miss Prothero.
In Green Forms, David and Doreen are comfortably installed in an obscure department of a large organization. On a normal day they keep busy by teasing Mr Tidmarsh in appointments or pursuing their feud over a plug with Mr Cunliffe in personnel.
This is not a normal day. Someone has an eye on them and a shadow is falling across their tranquil lives. Are they
about to be fired?
A Visit From Miss Prothero features the recently retired Mr Dodsworth who gets a surprise visit from his former secretary who is about to ruin his peaceful life.
The plays at the West Walls theatre mark the directing debut for Jason Munn, who also plays an acting role in both plays.
He said: “Bennett’s writing shines through and brings out fantastic performances from Sarah Waters and Simon Yaxley, who perform diverse roles in both plays.”
They will be performed from July 1 to July 6. Tickets are available from Carlisle Tourist Information Centre (01228 598596) or can be bought on the door on the night of the performance.
