A 15-YEAR-OLD boy from Carlisle has been arrested on suspicion of assault, in connection with an incident which left another teenager critically ill in hospital.

The incident, in which police say an 18-year-old boy was punched, occurred near to the Co-op store on Central Avenue, Harraby, at about 7.15pm on Wednesday.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said the 15-year-old boy last night remained in custody.

The 18-year-old was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle following the assault.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.

The spokesman for the force added: “Inquiries are ongoing into this investigation.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information to get in touch.

“No matter how insignificant you may deem your information, we would like to hear from you.”

Officers have also renewed their appeal for the occupants of a car to come forward.

They say they want to speak with the owner and occupants of a blue Ford Fiesta, which was in the area at the time of the

assault.

The injured teenager last night remained in the RVI in a critical but stable condition, although a police spokesman said he had improved over the past 24 hours.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact police on 101.
