Members of Whitehaven Castle Rotary Club enjoyed a visit to Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team's new headquarters.

They were joined by some members from Whitehaven Rotary Club to the see the mountain rescue team's new base near Gosforth.

The Rotarians were shown around by Richard Warren, who had been a guest and speaker at Whitehaven Castle Rotary Club's charter night in September last year.

President Elly Day chose WMRT as her local charity of the year and was "delighted" to present Mr Warren with a cheque which will be used to replace some of the team's safety helmets.

Mrs Day said: "We were all very impressed with the latest outdoor clothing, equipment and technology, including a drone, which the team now have at their disposal, to enable them to carry out search and rescues so successfully.

"They also have a purpose built and equipped Landrover, a large 4x4 Toyota , an ambulance and large rib, which is often used on the lake for accidents on the Wasdale Screes.

"This is a very dedicated Team and Richard gave us an interesting and wonderful insight into what it is like to be a mountain rescue volunteer and the long hours they spend both practising and searching for and rescuing casualties on the fells."
