A NUMBER of four-legged friends are preparing for a special parkrun takeover in north Cumbria this weekend.

Organisers at Carlisle parkrun are temporarily renaming it as Carlisle barkrun for one morning only to welcome pets to take part with their owners.

The run, which takes place at Chances Park on Wigton Road, will see runners heading out with their dogs at 9am on Saturday.

The usual parkrun rules regarding dogs will apply; with one dog per runner, and they must be kept on a short lead at all times.

Dog owners have also been urged to not forget their barcodes.

Those who haven't signed up to take part in parkrun can do so for free online.

A sign-up must happen in order for a run time to be logged by organisers and parkrun volunteers.

For more details about the upcoming event, head online to parkrun.org.uk/carlisle.

Regular updates are also posted on the Carlisle parkrun Facebook page.

  • parkrun notices: New Year's Day parkruns in Carlisle and Penrith

Following the success of Penrith's first New Years Day parkrun, organisers are going to attempt their second event.

To ensure that the run goes ahead, a number of volunteers are required to help out to ensure everything runs smoothly.

If a sufficient number is not reached, then the run will not be able to proceed.

There is a volunteer sign up sheet in the pavilion at Frenchfields on the notice board.

A spokesman from Penrith parkrun said: "This year we have co-ordinated with Carlisle parkrun so the keen parkrunners amongst you have the opportunity to complete two Parkruns in one day - this is the only day you can do this.

"Our event in Penrith will start at 10.30am and Carlisle will start at 9.00am. If you are going to do both events please drive carefully."
