POLICE are investigating a serious assault on a Carlisle street.
The victim - another man - was allegedly stabbed during an argument in Shaddongate outside a restaurant.
It happened at about 8.45pm yesterday.
In a statement, police said they want to trace a couple who were seen arguing in the area at the time.
They also want to trace other potential witnesses.
"The male is described as being white, in his 40s, 5ft 6ins in height, of average build, and wearing a red jacket with a hood," said a spokesman.
The woman was in her 30s, and wearing a yellow, parker-style jacket.
The spokesman added: "It is believed the couple were also present with two young children."
Police also want to speak to any other person who may have seen what happened, or who can help them identify the man and the woman.
