A DECISION to become their own bosses has paved the way for two women in Brampton to open a dream business.

The duo has known each other for a long time and decided it was the right time to work for themselves.

Diane Robinson and Jill Bately have taken up residence in the home of the old Routledge bakery.

The women spent weeks cleaning and decorating the property ahead of Wednesday’s opening.

After many months worth of hard work and planning behind the scenes, the opening day finally brought a dream to life for the pair, who both live in the town.

Diane said she just felt the time was right to become her own boss: “We have been working really hard to get the shop open. It has been a labour of love.

“It has been hard work deciding what we need to order and getting things prepared.

“I’m really pleased to be able to say we will making our cakes from scratch and plan for everything to be homemade.”

After working together in the past, Jill has been running a cake business from her home, making bespoke cakes for all kind of occasions.

She added: “It’s full steam ahead for myself and Diane at Bee Baked.

“We will be selling biscuits, cakes, cheesecakes, baked potatoes - and more that I will have forgotten to mention.”

The store opened its doors on Wednesday at 8am welcoming its first customers.

When the previous bakery closed, there was a petition set up to try and save it, with almost 400 people wanting to keep it open.

Unfortunately for the town it closed, leaving them without the much loved fresh goods they wanted.

For Diane and Jill, it meant there was a gap in the market and with their combined skills they jumped at the chance to give Brampton back its local bakery.

The excitement for the store to open has been huge on social media, with more than 40 comments wishing them well.

Andrea Armstrong wrote: “ Wishing you both great success in your new venture.”

And, Julie Walker-Asquith was looking forward to popping in: “Good luck to you both in your new adventure. Will pop in and see what treats you have.”

Another well-wisher was Angela Jane Manton, who said: “Happy baking and good luck.”

As Jill already has a following from her cake business, she has been encouraging people to visit the store.

Diane added: “We’re opening the doors and hoping for the best.

“We know a lot of people couldn’t wait until we were open.

“We just want to make a success of it.”
