A WHITEHAVEN man is to appear on Couples Come Dine With Me in the new year.

Calvin Davidson, who is originally from Bransty, will feature on the popular Channel 4 show with his wife, Leanne.

He said they decided to apply for the programme after Leanne saw an advert on Facebook – although he admits neither of them can cook!

The show sees couples compete for the chance to win £1,000 by preparing and hosting a dinner party together and scoring the efforts of rival hosts.

Calvin and Leanne hosted a ‘Techno Tapas’ dinner party with an Ibiza theme and even had a DJ and smoke machine in their back garden for the occasion.

Calvin said: “We thought we would have a bit of banter and go on. Everyone enjoyed our party. We are both bonkers so we wanted a bonkers dinner party.”

The 33-year-old, who now lives in Aberdeen, said he wanted to pay homage to his Cumbrian roots at the dinner party so served Cumberland sausage for his starter.

However, he hinted that things didn’t quite go to plan with his main course, which was paella, but that guests loved the traditional Spanish cake made by Leanne.

The couple are no strangers to reality TV – having married on Don’t Tell the Bride last year when Calvin planned a Loch Ness monster-themed wedding for his Scottish fiancée.

He has also appeared on Coach Trip: Road to Marbella, has applied to go on Channel 4 show The Circle and said he would like to appear on Big Brother if the show is revived in the future. However, he insists his TV appearances are not for fame.

“I’m not fame-hungry at all – I just do it for the banter, just to meet some cool, like-minded people and have a laugh.”

Calvin said he is also looking forward to celebrating New Year in Whitehaven and catching up with friends and family.
