THE hospitals in Carlisle and Whitehaven have had another day with no Covid-19 deaths reported.

The latest figures released by NHS England show that the cornavirus death toll at The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven has remained static for the 16th consecutive day.

There was similar good news in south Cumbria.

The NHS trust which runs Furness General Hospital, as well as Lancaster Royal Infirmary, has also reported no additional coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours.

In the last seven days, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust has reported one death.

The figures were released a day after it was confirmed that the number of care homes in the county with coronavirus infections has more than halved - down to 11 from a high of 27.

But the county's Public Health Director Colin Cox said the situation in care homes remained serious.

In care homes across Cumbria, there have been an estimated 208 covid-19 related deaths - 108 confirmed and 100 which are likely to have been linked to coronavirus.
