Danny Grainger was left out of Carlisle’s victory at Swindon as a “precaution” because of a fresh calf injury, boss John Sheridan said.
The Cumbrian skipper suffered the injury in training the day before the game.
Grainger had recently been out with a calf injury - but this was a new problem with his other leg.
Sheridan said it is too early to know how long the captain will be unavailable.
“We trained at Walsall’s training ground and felt his calf,” United manager Sheridan said.
“It was just precautionary and it was best not to make it any worse.
“We will have to see how he is this week.”
Sheridan, meanwhile, said he would soon be meeting United’s loan players to discuss their futures.
While Saturday’s two-goal midfield hero Regan Slater is on loan for the season, the half-season deals for Ashley Nadesan, Jack Sowerby, Adam Campbell and Jerry Yates will be up in January.
