Carlisle United will start the 2019/20 season with a home clash against Crawley.

The Sussex club, who recently signed former Blues striker Ashley Nadesan, will visit Brunton Park for the League Two opener on Saturday, August 3.

It sees a quick rematch with Gabriele Cioffi's side, who were beaten 4-2 in Cumbria on the penultimate weekend of last season.

United have avoided last season's fate when they were given long trips on both the first and last weekends of the campaign.

Instead, they will begin and end 2019/20 at Brunton Park, with their final match against Stevenage on April 25.

Boxing Day also comes with the potential of a good festive crowd at United's ground, with the visit of newly-relegated Bradford.

United's first away game of the season takes them on August 10 to Swindon, who have been linked with Blues striker Hallam Hope and former loanee Jerry Yates.

August continues with games against Mansfield (home), Cheltenham (away), league new boys Salford (home) and Scunthorpe (away).

Their longest trip of the season, to Plymouth, falls on October 19, while Carlisle's shortest journey to Morecambe is on December 7.

Games over the festive period see a long trip to Colchester on December 21 before the visit of Bradford on December 26. Steven Pressley's side then go to Walsall on December 29 and are on the road again on New Year's Day when they face Crewe.

Easter weekend in the new campaign will take United to Salford's Moor Lane for the first time in the league, before a home clash with Scunthorpe.

Other notable encounters include meetings with Keith Curle's Northampton on October 22 (home) and March 17 (away).

The penultimate weekend of the season sees one of their longest trips, to Exeter.

Carlisle have a number of midweek games in the league calendar, including some long away fixtures.

These include trips to Cheltenham on August 20, Forest Green on January 28 and Northampton on March 17.

Home midweek games see the Blues face the same three opponents - Forest Green on September 17, Northampton on October 22 and Cheltenham on February 11.

October, meanwhile, looks to be a heavy month of travelling with trips to Newport, Plymouth and newly-promoted Leyton Orient.

In total the Cumbrians and their fans will put in 10,182 miles on the road for their 23 away fixtures.

It could prove a challenge, meanwhile, to attract a big crowd for their curtain-raiser given that Crawley brought just 76 fans to Brunton Park when the teams met in April.

United will learn their Carabao Cup first round opponents in tonight's 7pm draw.
