A statue of Swami Vivekananda was vandalised on Friday in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The incident took place at Maa Sharada Nani Devi Sishu Siksha Kendra in Murshidabad's Barancha area where the statue of Swami Vivekananda was set up.
Soon after the incident was reported, the police immediately reached the spot and launched the investigation. However, the police did not get any leads so far in the case.
In a tweet, the news agency ANI said, "West Bengal: A statue of Swami Vivekananda in Andi village of Murshidabad district was vandalised by unidentified persons, earlier today. Police investigation underway."

This comes at least three months after a statue of Swami Vivekananda was vandalised inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Objectionable messages were also written on the statue targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other Hindutva symbols. However, it was not clear who defaced the statue.

Previously, on May 14 last year, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust was vandalised in clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers at Vidyasagar College during BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow.
