Jefferson City man given shock detention in robbery case

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to 120 days shock detention in connection with a December 2018 robbery in Cole County.

LeAndre Williams, 18, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Judge Jon Beetem to an amended charge of one count of second-degree robbery.

He had been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action, but prosecutors amended those charges.

During his time in the Missouri Department of Corrections he will be in drug treatment, according to court records. If he is found to have successfully completed his treatment at DOC, he will be placed on five years of supervised probation. If he violates his probation, he faces a 10-year prison sentence.

Three other Jefferson City men have been charged in this robbery case. Blake Nunn, 18, is charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action and is to appear in court at the end of the month. Tyler McClinton, 18, and Troy Sharkey, 18, are each charged with first-degree robbery, receiving stolen property, first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. McClinton is scheduled to go to trial next month, while Sharkey is awaiting a new court date.

According to Cole County Sheriff's Department reports, deputies went to a residence in the 5600 block of Scherr Drive to investigate a weapons offense. It was later determined the house had been the target of a robbery over marijuana.

Upon arrival, deputies found the front door of the residence had been forced open and shots were fired from inside and outside the house. There were no reported injuries.

Investigators recovered seven shell casings from a 9mm handgun and a .38-caliber shell casing found outside the front door of the home, as well as other evidence.

Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statements state one of the suspects allegedly had a handgun and fought with the 17-year-old son of the homeowner. The son fired multiple shots after one shot was fired into the home, and he got into a fight with one of the suspects.

The son of the homeowner said Nunn had called to arrange buying some marijuana. The son also said he believed Nunn was setting him up to rob him. A short time later, a group of five men came to the home, kicked in the front door and fired shots.

The suspects fled after the shots were fired, but deputies were able to capture Williams, McClinton and Sharkey two blocks down from the home, walking on the same street. Nunn was picked up later.

Authorities checked social media and found two of the three picked up were friends with Nunn.

McClinton and Sharkey had different accounts of how they got to the area and where they were prior to being picked up. Both claimed to know nothing of the robbery or shots fired.

Williams told investigators Nunn had set up the robbery and a friend of Nunn, identified only as a 17-year-old male named Rashawn and with a nickname of "Shotty," had the handgun used to shoot into the home. Williams also said after the shooting that Nunn and the shooter fled the area in a vehicle that Nunn drove the group to the residence.

Nunn told investigators he drove the group to the residence and claimed his plan was to use fake money to get the marijuana, but the group instead decided to rob the home and take the drugs. Nunn said there was discussion about a handgun, but he never saw it.

He said he heard gunshots after the door was busted down and left the area in his vehicle while the other four left on foot. He said he picked "Shotty" up, who was walking down Scherr Drive, and took him to another location before driving himself to a separate location.

Nunn said he believed McClinton had the gun, and after the group left the area, he got a call stating the gun was thrown under a vehicle by the group of three men detained on Scherr Drive as a deputy approached them. Deputies went to that area and found a Ruger .38-caliber handgun by a curb. The gun was found to have been stolen.
