The Missouri Bicentennial Quilt will make a visit to Jefferson City next week.

From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, the quilt will be on display at The Lodge, 3211 Masonic Court.

The Bicentennial Quilt was created to celebrate Missouri's 200th year of statehood, which will be celebrated Aug. 10, 2021.

The State Historical Society of Missouri and Missouri Star Quilt Company, in partnership with the Missouri State Quilters Guild, created the quilt with the help of design submissions from Missouri residents.

The quilt is made up of 121 blocks - one for each county in the state, one for the city of St. Louis and a few extras including some to represent the Missouri Division of Tourism, the Missouri Star Quilt Company, the Missouri State Quilters Guild and the State Historical Society of Missouri.

Designs incorporate a variety of images including animals, state symbols, buildings, famous Missourians and landscapes on a light brown background.

Submissions for quilt blocks were accepted from Oct. 8, 2018, to Sept. 2, 2019. A judging committee chose the quilt blocks to be added to the final quilt.

Two of the quilt's squares were created by local quilters.

Cole County's block displays a black and white image of the Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza with the Missouri State Capitol dome in the background. The square was created by Janise Manchester on behalf of the Jefferson City Lewis and Clark Task Force.

Another Jefferson City landmark, the Missouri Governor's Mansion, can also be found on the quilt. This square was created by Dianna Price on behalf of the Friends of the Missouri Governor's Mansion.

A full gallery of the quilt blocks can be viewed on the Missouri 2021 Bicentennial website.

Now that the quilt is complete, it is ready to be taken around the state and displayed. Following the Jefferson City stop, the quilt will head to Paris, Moberly and Lancaster in August, with future dates and stops to be announced on the website.
