Jefferson City man receives 5 years probation after LU vandalism

A Jefferson City man was placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to charges in connection with vandalism at Lincoln University's Jason Gym in December 2017.

During a hearing before Cole County Judge Jon Beetem, Armon McCann, 18, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and first-degree property damage. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutor's, McCann must serve a 10-day shock detention sentence at the Cole County Jail and also pay an undetermined amount of restitution.

Previously, Marquise Long, 19, of Jefferson City, was also placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary and first-degree property damage in this case.

Long told officers they went to the gym and took part in kicking in doors to multiple offices and stealing multiple items out of those offices, including $70 from one of the office desks, according to a Lincoln University Police Department probable cause statement.

Shortly after the break-in, officers stopped a vehicle McCann was in and found a pair of bolt cutters. They also found an Apple Macbook reported stolen from Lincoln, and there were five pairs of basketball shoes found in the vehicle.

Management at one of the Jefferson City Walmarts contacted authorities to let them know a group of men had come into the store and bought bolt cutters from them. A check of store video showed McCann was one of those in the group.

Long allegedly admitted to stealing two pairs of shoes and a shirt from a bag in the men's locker room. Long said he and friends had planned the break-in for several days.
