Jefferson City man accused of stealing from construction company

A Jefferson City man has been charged with receiving stolen property for an incident that occurred this weekend.

Robert Edmonds, 44, is also charged with delivery of a controlled substance and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Deputies were called Dec. 9 to the break-in of a construction company trailer on Route CC, according to a Cole County Sheriff’s Department probable cause statement. Among the items stolen were screw guns, a belt sander, a router and a gas-powered generator.

One of the victims in the case informed the Sheriff’s Department a few days later that the generator had been listed for sale on Facebook by a Robert Edmonds.

The victim contacted Edmonds and set up a time for the two to meet.

Deputies were notified and found Edmonds in a pickup parked where they had planned to meet. In the back of the truck was the generator, and a check of its serial number determined it was the stolen generator.

Edmonds was taken to the Cole County Jail. When searched by deputies, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and nearly $2,200 in cash. A search of the truck found several power tools that reportedly matched descriptions of items reported stolen in December.

Deputies later went to Edmonds’ home, which he shares with his 4-year-old child, and deputies allegedly found more methamphetamine along with several knives and two propane torches.
