Where is the coronavirus in N.J.? Latest map, update on county-by-county cases. (June 2, 2020)

N.J. reopening

Gov. Phil Murphy said Tuesday that outdoor dining at New Jersey restaurants could reopen within weeks. In a file photo, Mister C's restaurant outdoor dining area is shown in Allenhurst.Russ DeSantis

Each day, as the coronavirus numbers continue to improve, Gov. Phil Murphy continues to remove restrictions as the state enters ‘Stage 2’ of its recovery.

Personal care services, such as hair salons and barbershops, will be permitted to reopen under safety protocols June 22. Gyms, libraries, museums, and some government offices — such as motor vehicle services — would follow, though Murphy did not provide a specific date for those.

“The next big step in our restart and recovery is just two weeks away,” Murphy said during his daily coronavirus briefing in Trenton on Monday. “We’re ready to begin moving forward. We are ready because this progress is being seen across the state. I firmly believe we are going to stay on track."

The governor did stress that a resurgence in cases could alter the timetable.

As of Monday afternoon, the number of positive cases in New Jersey reached 160,918 with the number of deaths at 11,721.

New Jersey health officials have been reporting statewide totals and providing a county-by-county breakdown, but some county and municipal health departments have been providing additional details, including town-by-town case numbers.
