28-year-old man fatally shot in Newark was city’s 3rd killing last week

A 28-year-old man was fatally shot in Newark last week and no arrests have been made, authorities said Friday.

Devante Perry, of Newark, was shot on the 100 block of Avon Avenue on May 16, acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II announced. He was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m.

Perry’s killing marks a deadly week in Newark. Two men were killed hours apart from each other one day prior near the same intersection by Bradley Court apartments. No arrests have been announced in those homicides.

The investigations remain ongoing.
